![]() ![]() That is Blizzard's hack to make sure 32 bit clients work properly with 64 bit clients, at least as far as switching modes on the same computer. The 64 bit client does access the memory faster, but does not use more. World of Warcraft does not use more than 4 gigabytes of RAM, regardless of 32 or 64 bit clients. On another note, have you tried running the 64-bit version of the client? The game client no longer puts any artificial limitation on memory usage, and the only way you're getting that alert is if you're running an old 1.x version client. That limitation has not existed since vanilla. Stop playing on private servers.Actually i dont even know how to play on a private server as i have never even tried. It continues to lose settings on addons ie all my settings for Arkinventory Would be quite the wall of text if it was pasted here)? Can you post a dxdiag (tossing it up as a download on Dropbox or something is fine. All the applications they run use easily double the memory my equivalent applications do. Ignis: I just remembered someone I know has a huge amount of memory problems on their computer. I only run the 64-bit client because I have 12 GB of RAM and want to play it safe so my game doesn't crash in my face on the off chance my 30 or so addons start using way too much memory. The performance increase is minimal at best since the game *usually* doesn't need more than 4 GB of RAM by itself, but once you start running addons that may require asinine amounts of memory to function problems may begin.įor instance, my WoW is currently using about 700 MB of my RAM because I'm idling in Orgrimmar, but that could easily shoot up to 3 GB while running Recount in a 25-man raid. Also, the game make no distinction about who's using the memory, so even if it was running out of alocatable RAM, it would simply crash, not tell you to disable addons.Īctually, it's the other way around. The main benefit to the 64-bit client is performance, not memory-related. ![]() It has no problem running within the 32-bit constraint. The game is pretty smart about memory management. 16 GB RAM is a damn lot but you're really only utilizing 4 GB or it or so, hence your memory errors). Now most patch days are just a matter of checking the 'Load Out-of-date Addons' button and logging in.The 32-bit version of the client has a cap on how much memory it uses (i.e. 2.0 broke a lot, and I made the switch to more Ace-based mods. It used to, for sure, but more addon writers are utilising the UI forum list of changes as well as PTR's to make sure their addons work. People often comment that while the UI looks good, it must make patch days terrible. It lets me see the guild chat and party chat while in a major city without the trade channel pushing it up fast. ![]() Moving further right there's the general chatbox which also handles the trade channel and says/yells, and finally the combat log. One for guild/party/tells, beside it is the defence channels (both local and world), and right above that one is the general one where mod messages go. Using various art mods, the first version of this setup was created. Over the 18 months of playing I found that addons could improve the information I get, but made the UI look terrible. Some info: I came to WoW after playing Guild Wars, and was extremely disappointed at the lack of customising the default UI could do.
